Car Vs. Motorcycle

At 4pm on Sunday afternoon Botsford was dispatched to a MVA with injuries at South Main street and Huntingtown road. Engine 552 was first on scene and reported a car vs. motorcycle with one patient. Engine 551 was next on scene and provided patient care until EMS arrived. All units cleared soon after.


 
Chestnut Hill Structure fire

On May 9th Botsford was 2nd due to a reported structure fire at #40 Chestnut Hill Rd in Sandy hook.

On arrival engine 551 was given assignment of laying a supply line out from the fire to a portable pond set up down the road.

After the water supply was established part of engine 551’s crew along with engine 552’s crew was assigned to be R.I.T.

1st engine in was Sandy Hooks 443 and next in was their Quint.

1st arriving crews stretched a line into the front door and up to the second floor  for a good knock down of the bulk of the fire a second and third line where stretched as well.

The first crew in did a good job of getting the fire under control without further damage to the structure.

Its that time of year again! The Botsford Fire Dept. is hosting its annual carnival at its NEW LOCATION this year. It will be held at Middle Gate Elementary School. (7 Cold Spring Road Newtown, CT 06470) The dates are set for the carnival to run Wednesday April 21 through Saturday April 24.

Wed-Fri: 6pm to 10pm
Saturday: 2pm to 10pm

South Main Rollover

On 3/23/2010 Botsford was dispatched to South Main St in the area of Abbey Ln for a reported overturned vehicle with injuries. Ariving units found a single vehicle on it's roof with the occupant out of the vehicle. The occupant refused medical attention. Units cleared around 07:20.


 
   
   
Commercial Buildings under construction in Botsford

Construction on the new Sand Hill plaza –South is proceeding quickly. Photos show the before and after of the newly finished childcare facility. All of the current and soon to be completed buildings are using a variety of lightweight trusses. Not all buildings are sprinklered and one has been built to the new federal hurricane guidelines for high wind stability. All members should be very aware of the potential for rapid catastrophic failure if fire is in control of the trussed areas. The total number of buildings is five totaling an area of approximately seventy five thousand square feet. Be aware and stay safe!

 
   
   
Chinese Exchange Students visit Botsford Fire Rescue.

A contingent of Chinese high school students visited the town of Newtown this past week on a cultural exchange program. As part of the visit, the students wished to experience as much of American life as possible. As a result, the students were guests of the Botsford Fire Rescue for an educational program on American emergency services operations. The students were given the opportunity to dress in fire gear, review the equipment, tour the station and experience first hand a simulated vehicle extrication and car fire. The students were appreciative of their two hour visit and cultural interchange. The students took many videos and photos of their visit to share with their families and fellow students upon their return to northern China, Special thanks to all members who participated in this excellent program.

 
Two car MVA with one extrication

At approximately 13:15, Botsford Fire Rescue was dispatched to an M.V.A. with injuries on Toddy Hill Road near Buttonshop Road. First arriving Botsford unit rescue-engine 551 reported a two car M.V.A. with one injury. Extrication was required on the mini-van for access to the female driver. First responder medical and vehicle stabilization was provided by Botsford Fire. The patient was transported to the hospital by Newtown ambulance.Botsford units 501,505,506 and 509 assisted.


 
   
   
Car Vs. Tree on Huntingtown

At approximately 10:00 Botsford Fire Rescue was dispatched to Huntingtown Road for a reported M.V.A. with injuries. Botsford unit 503 arrived and confirmed one car into a tree with one injury. First responder medical,vehicle stabilization as well as extrication was initiated to enhance the removal of the male patient. Removal of the rear door and "B" post was quickly completed. Transport to the hospital was by Danbury ambulance. Botsford units engine 552,503,509 and 510 operated at the scene.

 
   
   
Car hits telephone pole on Toddy Hill

At approximately 09:45 Botsford Fire Rescue was dispatched reported M.V.A. with injuries on Toddy Hill Road in the area of #113. First arriving Botsford unit 509 reported one car into a pole with one injured female occupant. Botsford Fire provided first responder medical and vehicle stabilization. The patient was transported to the hospital by Newtown ambulance. Rescue-engine 551 along with 501,505 and 506 worked the incident.

 
   
   
Delivery van hits tree during winter storm

On 2-16-10 at approximately 09:00 Botsford Fire Rescue was requested second due to a confirmed extrication in the Sandy Hook Fire district on Toddy Hill Road. Botsford units 501,505,506 along with rescue-engine 551 responded to the scene and provide a charged hose line and support to Sandy Hook's operation. One adult male was entrapped in the front drivers seat after hitting a large tree during a snow storm. THIS WAS TO BE THE FIRST OF FIVE M.V.A.'s INVOLVING THREE EXTRICATIONS THAT BOTSFORD RESPONDED TO DURING A DAY LONG SNOW STORM!

 
   
   
Reported car Vs. pedestrian

On 2-12-10 at approximately 12:45 p.m., Botsford Fire Rescue was dispatched to car vs. pedestrian M.V.A. on Buttonshop Road. First arriving Botsford unit 501 reported a male victim on the side of the road having been hit by a passing motor vehicle while operating a small motorized scooter. Botsford Fire provided first responder medical assistance. This was a hit and run incident with the victim being transported to the hospital via Newtown Ambulance.

 
Car Vs. Bridge on Botsford Hill

On Wednesday, 2-10-10, Botsford Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported rollover with entrapment on Botsford Hill Road at the railroad bridge underpass. First arriving Botsford unit 506 reported one vehicle into the bridge abutment with 3 injuries, one laying in the road, the second and third were walking wounded. No extrication was required. Two medics, two ambulances and first responder medical from Botsford Fire with vehicle stabilization completed the assignment.

 
Structure Fire in Sandy Hook

Around 3pm Tuesday afternoon Sandy Hook, Botsford, and Hook & Ladder were dispatched to Deerfield Rd. for the reported smoke coming from the windows. Arriving units from sandy hook confirmed a working structure fire. There was heavy fire found throughout both floors of the house. All five depts in town were called for manpower. Southbury,Stepny,Bethel and Brookfield stood by in the stations to cover for any other calls.
